The seeds of revolution are planted and watered by government tyranny. It is the inherent nature of government to grow and assume more and more power. This is not new, but has existed from the beginning. The limit of government power is determined by what the people are willing to tolerate. People, especially the people who founded this nation, correctly understood that the rights of the people came from God, not from the government. The sole legitimate function of the government is the protection of the God-given rights of the people. This concept is firmly embedded in the opening paragraph of our Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

When people are happy and satisfied, there is peace in the land. But as dissatisfaction with their circumstances increase, so does the tendency to revolt. Revolution does not begin in a day, but over an extended period of time. Many people mistakenly believe that the American Revolution began in 1776. The truth is that revolution must first take place in the minds of the people before a shooting revolution can ever begin. In that sense, the American Revolution actually began in 1760 when King George III, along with the British Parliament, began placing more and more restrictions on the American colonist. All revolutions follow the same path. Dissatisfaction becomes discord. Discord becomes resolution. Resolution, if not satisfied, becomes revolution. The American Revolution followed this same path over a period of fifteen years.

Texas booms while California busts

First of a five-part series

Among the states, it has become clear there are two competing visions of political economy in America, embodied by California and Texas. One vision involves the economic devastation that comes of an overregulated economy. The other reveals the prosperity unleashed by smaller government.

Broadly speaking, the two states have many similarities. They have diverse economies, large urban areas, a border with Mexico and similar demographic make-up, with Hispanics a third of the population. Yet one state is failing and one state is succeeding.

California is facing budget shortfalls in excess of $20 billion each year for the next five years, and acquires $25 million in new debt each day. “We’ve been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I’m shocked,” then California Gov.-elect Jerry Brown, D, told the Los Angeles Times.

By contrast, when Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, campaigned successfully for a third term this year, he ran ads touting the fact that his state has billions in surplus. In fact, Texas was one of only six states that did not run a budget deficit in 2009. Perry, with characteristic Texas humility, has taken to taunting California on his Facebook page.
Texas is expected to run a two-year, $15 billion deficit going forward. But this still doesn’t have observers worried. Texas legislators closed a $10 billion deficit in 2003 without raising taxes.

Already the Texas legislature has proposed $73.8 billion over the next two years or “exactly what the state comptroller said Texas will earn in revenues over the next two years,” according to the Associated Press. The Texas legislature operates under the radical assumption that the government can only spend what it earns.

While Texas has been affected by the economic downturn, its 7.9 percent unemployment rate is well below the national average of 9.8. At 12 percent, unemployment in California is well above average.

Perhaps the most dramatic illustration of Texas’ superiority is that Americans have been stating their preference for the Lone Star State with their feet.

Between 2000 and 2009, California had a domestic outflow of 1.5 million people, while Texas had 850,000 move in from other states. From 2008 to 2009, Texas’ population inflow was double that of any other state.

So how have two similar states ended up in such radically different situations? The answer is smaller government.

What Texas is doing “appears as right-wing science fiction to many California legislators and pundits. They claim that serious reform of the tax code is unrealistic, that a large state has many duties to fulfill, and that it is irresponsible to call for a return to a 19th century view of the role of government,” write economists Arthur B. Laffer, Stephen Moore and Jonathan Williams in their annual report “Rich States, Poor States.”

Texas has no state income tax or personal capital gains tax and a small 1 percent gross receipts tax on business. In contrast, California’s 10.3 percent personal income tax is the second highest in the country, and the Golden’s State’s top marginal rates for corporate income and capital gains are 8.84 and 10.55 percent, respectively.

“We hasten to add that the last time we checked, Texas still had literate kids, navigable roads and functioning hospitals, which one would think impossible given the hysterical rhetoric coming from defenders of California’s punitive tax system,” write Laffer, Moore and Williams.

Texas is easily weathering the economic storms, while state services and infrastructure in California are on the verge of collapse. The contrast between the two state economies serves as a warning to the whole country.

Q: ...John, you had told me before, and I'm reading from my book, that "Obama was already an ardent Marxist in the fall of 1980 when I met him. I know it's incendiary to say this, but although he said in Dreams From My Father that he'd 'hung out with Marxist professors', he did not explain in that book or clarify is that he was 100% in total agreement with those professors.

A: Yeah, you've got that exactly right. Obama believed, at the time I met him, this was probably around Christmas time in 1980. I'd flown out on Christmas break from Corness, where I was in grad school. And Obama was looking forward to an imminent social revolution, literally a movement where the working classes would overthrow the ruling class and institute a kind of socialist Utopia in the United States. I mean, that's how extreme his views were his sophomore year of college.

Rather than retiring, my mother-in-law, along with my own doctor has decided to join MDVIP.

He'll take my insurance as long as I pay annual membership dues of $1995.00. My mother-in-law has a little over 2400 patients. She'll charge an access fee/membership of $1650.00 and keep 600 of her patients. By joining the "Boutique Medicine Movement" she'll be able to continue practicing and seeing about 200 of her elderly Medicare patients as the fees will cover her losses on those patients.

So next January, as one of the many repercussions of ObamaCare, about 3300 people currently seeing Mom and my doc will be shopping for a new doctor thanks to a bunch of power hungry scumbags who try to buy votes with false promises. I expect supporters of ObamaCare (see "Socialist" and "Useful Idiots") will be demonizing doctors who don't want to lose money in exchange for the privilege of practicing medicine.

In a report released last week by The Health and Human Services Department, neutral economic experts told us what we (at least those with an IQ above room temperature) already knew. ObamaCare will undoubtedly increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on consumers. The analysis found that Medicare cuts in the law are unrealistic and unsustainable. The report also warns that Medicare cuts will drive 15 to 20 percent of hospitals and other institutional providers into the red, "jeopardizing access" to care, especially for for seniors.

The Asses who shoved the bill through have begun calling forced compliance a tax rather than a mandate to avoid having their efforts ruled unconstitutional.

Arizonan's are catching all kinds of hell because their Governor signed a bill (SENATE BILL 1070) that basically enforces federal law which feds have refused to enforce. President Obama, back in campaign mode, immediately began shooting off his mouth, making uninformed statements and accusations... again... shamelessly dividing the country, projecting Dem. intolerance on opponents, playing the race card and even going so far as to play the Gestapo Card.

It's an imperfect but necessary law enacted because past administrations both Republican and Democrat refused to get serious about illegal aliens. There aren't enough police officers, sheriffs, etc. to seriously enforce the new law, but politicians will continue being politicians and fan the flames of hatred rather than doing what they should be doing - securing the damn border.

Is the Mandate Unenforceable?

ObamaCare - Veterans wounded in combat for our country will now be forced to pay a tax on their prosthetic limbs.

President Obama considers the Constitution is a negative document, "telling us what the States and the Federal governments CAN’T do."

Both the House and Senate versions of ObamaCare contain penalty taxes on Americans who do not have government-approved health insurance, the so-called "individual mandate."
Such a tax would function as a direct, or capitation, tax, as opposed to a tax on activity, such as excise or income taxes, and would therefore fall outside Congress' authority to tax income granted by the 16th Amendment to the Constitution.
The Constitution places strict restrictions on Congress' power to lay capitation taxes under But Article I, Sec. 9, which reads "No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken."
Exemptions for some people built into the Senate bill's individual mandate tax would make it impossible for ObamaCare to meet this strict constitutional standard.

"The Constitution does not authorize the Congress to regulate the state governments, in this piece of legislation, the Congress has told the state governments that they must modify their regulation of certain areas of healthcare, they must surrender their regulation of other areas of healthcare, and they must spend state taxpayer-generated dollars in a way that the Congress wants it done. That's called commandeering the legislature and it's prohibited."

The Seattle Times editorial board supports the lawsuit of state attorneys general, joined by Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna, that challenges the constitutionality of the new federal health-insurance law.

The Parable of the Satellite Dish

Imagine a large condominium complex is meeting to consider a package deal with a cable TV company. Over eighty percent of the condo owners have their own satellite dishes, and are quite happy with the service. Some of them don’t bother to watch television at all, preferring to rent movies from Blockbuster or Netflix for entertainment. However, the condominium Board of Directors says they’re getting a lot of complaints from the residents who don’t have satellite dishes, demanding the condo association purchase a cable TV package, and fold its cost into the monthly homeowner dues.

The homeowners already pay extremely high dues, and they’re not happy with the quality of service they receive. They also notice that most of the people clamoring for cable television aren’t even homeowners – they’re renters, so they don’t pay the association fees directly. The condo owners already host regular movie nights at the clubhouse, which also has a well-stocked library, so no one is truly starved for entertainment. Still, the owners feel guilty that anyone has to make do without TV service in their home, so they invite a cable company to give them a sales pitch.

The cable company, BFD Communications, produces an incredibly complicated plan for providing cable television service to the community. The plan is thousands of pages long, and no one even claims to have read the whole thing. They spend the weeks leading up to the big board meeting pestering all of the residents with relentless advertising for their services, covering doorknobs and windshields with brochures. Their presentation at the board meeting is several hours long.

BFD Communications explains that purchasing their service will require a lifetime contract, which can never be broken. The condo residents will be required to deal exclusively with BFD for their entertainment needs – all satellite dishes must go, and even the library will fall under their control. The contract will include funding for a large corporate security force, which will ensure compliance by issuing fines for illegal satellite dishes, or attempts to smuggle rented movies into the development. As this feature of the contract is being explained to the homeowners, a large screen behind the BFD representatives is flashing slogans like “BFD Enhances Competition!” and “BFD Saves You Money!”

The cable TV contract will be fantastically expensive. Curiously, while it is a lifetime contract, the company refuses to discuss the fee schedule beyond the first ten years. An intrepid homeowner studies the contract and discovers the costs double after ten years… and this assessment was prepared by CBO Auditing, a firm which has underestimated the cost of every contract it has ever reviewed. The condo Board rules that only the ten-year projections matter, and the intrepid homeowner is asked to leave the meeting.

Other homeowners announce they’ve been researching BFD Communications, and discovered it has never been able to deliver promised services at the contracted price. Every single project the company has undertaken experienced enormous cost overruns, and delivered poor quality to its customers. Every time a smaller competitor has been allowed to bid against them, the competitor’s price and performance were superior – that’s why BFD demands exclusive lifetime contracts. The people who make this announcement are told their input is not welcome, and asked to leave the meeting.

A resident asks what different packages BFD will offer. She has small children, so she would like educational programming, but she has no interest in premium movie channels, shopping networks, or morally offensive shows. The cable company explains that only one package will be offered. Its purchase will be mandatory, and the high price of its many channels will be charged to all residents. A senile old man in the audience claims the BFD executives promised him there would never be any morally offensive programming.

This prompts an angry homeowner to leap from his seat, waving a portion of the gigantic cable TV contract… which says the members of the condo Board of Directors are exempt from the restrictions, along with some of their friends! They can rent movies, purchase high quality satellite service, and avoid having the exorbitant fees for BFD tacked onto their monthly dues.

A loud argument breaks out in the meeting area, with angry residents howling that they want no part of this terrible deal. These people are told their anger disqualifies them from further participation in the meeting, and they are asked to leave.

The remaining critics of the deal suggest that other alternatives should be explored. There are less expensive entertainment options to consider, and since none of them require lifetime commitments, wouldn’t it make sense to try them first?

The Board of Directors insists that the BFD contract must be signed immediately. It’s simply appalling that anyone in the development should endure a single day without entertainment. Why, all of the surrounding condo developments have already signed up with BFD! They all have appalling service and frequent TV blackouts, they’re all broke, and they borrow security officers from our development to keep their streets safe… but their Boards of Directors all laugh at us for refusing to provide BFD cable service to our residents, and our Board is tired of their mockery. The BFD executives mention that no one will actually receive any cable services for five years, but their fees will begin right away.

The meeting ends with the Board of Directors ignoring the demands of homeowners and voting for that lifetime contract with BFD. The residents leave the meeting hall wondering how they reached the point where a small group of Board members, up for re-election over the next couple of years, were able to ignore the clear wishes of the residents and saddle them with a lifetime contract.

Here are some lessons to ponder from the Parable of the Satellite Dish:

Never accept permanent solutions that are nearly impossible to change, when simpler and more easily modified plans are available. It’s foolish to let the advocates of permanent programs dismiss flexible alternatives before they have been tried.

A proposal that requires you to ignore both the past and the future is a swindle, not a solution.

Free people do not accept restrictions from which their government is exempt. This is one of the differences between leaders and rulers.

A demand for commitment without a guarantee of performance is domination, not service.

When free people are told something is “inevitable,” their response should be an immediate and overwhelming refusal to accept it. Inevitability is a self-fulfilling prophecy in the absence of resistance. Freedom is the never-ending quest for alternatives.

The people who loudly celebrate “diversity” keep coming up with universal plans. Their State is a giant who trims citizens to fit its bed, using rusty implements. The giant, the bed, and the implements were all equal sins in the eyes of our Founders. They come as a set.

When the State refuses to let you debate the terms of its plans individually, you can rest assured the whole is worse than the sum of its parts.

Freedom requires the courage to avoid being stampeded. You should ask more questions about something you are told is an “essential right.” Sober reflection is a hallmark of maturity. A wise State would not require its citizens to act like children.

The State cannot give you anything worth having. You’ll eventually find yourself guilty of the crime of wanting more. As the State fails to live up to its promises, it will be increasingly tempted to convict you of that crime… in advance.

My mother and father-in-law are both Harvard educated allopathic physicians who followed my cantankerous cutie, their lovely daughter, to Texas. Actually they didn't follow her, but she was a good excuse for her liberal parents to take advantage of the friendlier business climate down here after Texas enacted tort reform. Tort reform was a big win for everyone in the state, except trial lawyers. Doctors and their patients had lower insurance premiums and patients had better access to first-class health-care.
Miss Anthropic's dad is an oncologist who now practices at a local hospital that does more clinical testing annually than ALL the hospitals in Canada and Great Britain COMBINED. Last night her Obama loving daddy was grumbling about the fact that he spent 8 years in college and 5 more as a resident so he could PAY for the G--damn privilege of practicing medicine!"
Her mom is a general practitioner who saved almost 40% on her liability insurance when she set-up shop down here. She's told me that like most physicians her profit margin runs 3-4% of her gross. She loses 30% on the Medicare patients she treats and makes it up by overcharging the insured and the few who pay cash.
The bill being voted on tonight with take nearly 1.5 billion out of Medicare reimbursements and doctors continue accepting Medicare patients will now lose over 50%. It easy to see what happens next. Medicare patients will be the 1st to get a taste of Obamacare as their choices and providers dry up. They'll spend entire days sitting in community clinic waiting rooms only to be run through the examining room by a physician who doesn't have time for a real exam and certainly hasn't the time for to discussing any patient concerns because he or she's still got 17 consumers to see before 5 and it's 4:20.
When I was a kid my parents paid cash to take us to the doctor and had insurance "catastrophic coverage" to cover a percentage of hospitalization. Government intervention changed that forever. LBJ's "Great Society" drove prices up and many could no longer afford a visit to the family doctor so HMOs were born. The family doctor (if he/she was on the approved list) became our PCP, the "gatekeeper" for the insurance companies who now determined our access to medical treatment.

President Obama Is leading the Democrats right back into the minority and party leaders seem more than happy to lead their troops over the cliff. The pollsters who worked for the Carter and Clinton Administrations agree:

First, the battle for public opinion has been lost. Comprehensive health care has been lost. If it fails, as appears possible, Democrats will face the brunt of the electorate’s reaction. If it passes, however, Democrats will face a far greater calamitous reaction at the polls. Wishing, praying or pretending will not change these outcomes.

Nothing has been more disconcerting than to watch Democratic politicians and their media supporters deceive themselves into believing that the public favors the Democrats’ current health-care plan. Worse news for Democrats... these numbers are a month old and are getting worse, (if you're a socialist that is), better if you love freedom and believe in the free enterprise system.

So why aren't President Obama and the Democrat Party leadership listening to we the people? Because the leaders of the Democrats don't respect "The People." They simply use the various interest groups, socialist and individual hate-mongers who make up the "Progressive Party" to expand their own power.

Obama knows that history has been much too kind to FDR. A man whose disastrous policies prolonged The Great Depression and who is responsible for initiating the era of entitlements that will will both financially and morally bankrupt our nation. Obama also understands that his only shot at a second term is a Republican House and Senate, so of course he's willing to sacrifice a few useful idiots.

This President doesn't give a damn about anything but his own legacy and while many Democrats can now see it, they're too emotionally invested in the man to ever admit it...

What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote.. I've never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.

The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other.. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna , Linz , and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.

We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany , where Hitler had been in power since 1933. We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria .. We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.

After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Hitler Targets Education - Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:

Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler's picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn't pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang "Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles," and had physical education.

Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail. The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free. We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.

My mother was very unhappy. When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn't do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun - no sports, and no political indoctrination. I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it. Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing. Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler. It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn't exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.

Equal Rights Hits Home:

In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn't work, you didn't get a ration card, and if you didn't have a card, you starved to death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn't have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.

Soon after this, the draft was implemented. It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps. During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys. They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps. After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines. When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat. Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.

Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:

When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers. You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government. The state raised a whole generation of children.. There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.

Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:

Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna . After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government. The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full. If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine. Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.

As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income. Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families. All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.

We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables. Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He couldn't meet all the demands. Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.

We had consumer protection. We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.

"Mercy Killing" Redefined:

In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps . The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated. So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work. I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school. One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months. They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.

As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia.

The Final Steps - Gun Laws:

Next came gun registration.. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

Totalitarianism didn't come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria . Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.

After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria . Women were raped, preteen to elderly. The press never wrote about this either. When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process. They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn't destroy, they burned. We called it The Burned Earth. Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses. Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized. Those who couldn't, paid the price. There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians. This is an eye witness account.

1.) Am I the only one scared shitless by the fact that the asshole who wants to take charge of MY health care insurance as well as 17% of the U.S. economy provided evidence that he doesn't even know the fucking difference between comprehensive and liability automotive coverage while attempting to demonize the insurance industry?

2.) Will Dear Leader or the W.H. ever offer a rebuttal to any of the valid points raised about Obama's reform proposal by Rep. Paul Ryan?
For example:

"This bill does not control costs (or) reduce deficits. Instead, (it) adds a new health care entitlement when we have no idea how to pay for the entitlements we already have."
"The bill has 10 years of tax increases, about half a trillion dollars, with 10 years of Medicare cuts, about half a trillion dollars, to pay for six years of spending. The true 10-year cost (is) $2.3 trillion."
"The bill takes $52 billion in higher Social Security tax revenues and counts them as offsets. But that's really reserved for Social Security. So either we're double-counting them or we don't intend on paying those Social Security benefits."
"The bill takes $72 billion from the CLASS Act (long-term care insurance) benefit premiums and claims them as offsets."
"The bill treats Medicare like a piggy bank, (raiding) half a trillion dollars not to shore up Medicare solvency, but to spend on this new government program."
"The chief actuary of Medicare (says) as much as 20% of Medicare providers will either go out of business or have to stop seeing Medicare beneficiaries."
"Millions of seniors who have chosen Medicare Advantage (Medicare through a private insurer) will lose the coverage that they now enjoy."
"When you strip out the double-counting and ... gimmicks, the full 10-year cost of the bill has a $460 billion deficit. The second 10-year cost of this bill has a $1.4 trillion deficit."
"The 'doc fix' (restoring cuts in Medicare reimbursements) costs $371 billion ... a price tag (that) made the score look bad. (So) that provision was taken out, and (put) in stand-alone legislation. But ignoring these costs does not remove them from the backs of taxpayers. Hiding spending does not reduce spending."
"Are we bending the cost curve down or are we bending the cost curve up? If you look at your own chief actuary at Medicare, we're bending it up. He's claiming that we're going up $222 billion, adding more to the unsustainable fiscal situation we have."

You can't throw together a proper Valentine's celebration in a week. It takes time to do it right. Reservations at the right restaurant must be made at least 11 months in advance. I've been writing and editing the love letter since Thanksgiving. Shoes ordered 6 weeks ago and stashed in my office for the past 3, match the dress she'll be wearing tonight, which was a Christmas present. If you screw it up, you can forget about Steak and BJ Day...

Not a REAL Super Bowl this year (no AFL team) so Miss and I are rollin' with the Saints.

After the Jets lost we decided to scratch our normal Super Bowl Bash and watch the game in New Awlins so we made reservations at the Royal Sonesta as soon as it looked like the Saints had the NFC Championship in hand.

The folks already had plans so we invited the kids who agreed to come if we could stop off in Lake Charles for a little gambling.

We also invited 4 guys from the houses who are New Orleans natives. 3 came to us after Katrina and now work for us. The other was just released to us a few weeks ago after doing 35 for murder. Stupid gang shit. The guy Harold is 54 and spent his whole life in a cage. I took him suit shopping this week and told them they're allowed to drink this weekend as long as they don't tell my boss.

The kids got in last night and we left this morning stopped off at L’Auberge where the boy was the only winner (he'll be paying for brunch tomorrow). Checked in then had dinner at my favorite restaurant, Antoine's! I had the Pompano Pontchartrain with Pommes de terre soufflées. Harold hasn't been out to a restaurant since I was in 3rd grade so it was great fun watching him look over the menu. Of course we made him order the Escargots a la Bordelaise as his appetizer. I'd be perfectly happy to just sit here and burp up crabmeat and Baked Alaska for the rest of the night but our rooms overlook Bienville Street where the pre-game party is already in high gear so I'm afraid we're going out... damnit.

I have to keep an eye on my guys and make sure the don't get in any trouble.

Tomorrow after Mass at the Cathedral we'll be heading to Chef Tory's Jazz Brunch at Commander's then back to our room for the annual screening of Super Bowl III and pre-game. We may head down to Desire for the game itself.

Don't tell Big Pa but I'm glad the Jets lost...

Oh... the game should be a good one.

She had to re-learn how to do simple things such as brushing her teeth and walking and to this day she needs a cane to walk and, when performing, she sits on a special chair (or stands). Unable to walk or to formulate words, she slowly regained her powers of language after a doctor suggested music therapy as a way to reconnect her neural pathways. While lying on her back in a body cast, she learned the guitar, and began writing songs inspired by her experience.

With tiny teeth and claws, a little tail and soft-looking white skin, could this really be what it seems - a baby dragon?

Today people on both the right and left seem shocked that President Obama has been awarded The Nobel Peace Prize. Personally, I think it make perfect sense. Especially when you consider some of the Nobel Committee's recent selections.

What exactly is the criteria for winning the prize?
1) Anti-Semite
2) Blames USA for all world's problems
3) Terrorism (man-caused disaster) apologist
4) Vilifies US military
5) Appeases (and supports) despots and dictators

So you see Obama's a perfect fit for the Nobel Appease Prize!

It's also important to consider the origin of the Appease Prize.

Alfred Nobel, the man who invented dynamite, was the world's premier major armaments manufacturer. As Nobel lay on his deathbed, the man who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before decided to buy his way into the hearts of hearts of the European press who had dubbed him "The Merchant of Death" by leaving the bulk of his enormous fortune for the establishment of the Nobel Prizes.
As defined in Nobel's last will and testament, the "Peace Prize" will be dedicated to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies..."

"Fraternity between nations" doesn't mean putting your country first and Obama's certainly proved that he absolutely will not put the interest of his American subjects ahead of the rest of the world.

"Abolition or reduction of standing armies." There it is! The Committee is attempting to manipulate Dear Leader into retreating from Afghanistan and love all his talk about nuclear disarmament. Stroking The narcissistic One's ego is a good way to make him your puppet.

Who is the most beloved living US President around the globe? Jimmah Carter! Why? Because he made America weak! Making the U.S.A. weak is what it's all about and in his short presidency Obama has already proved that he has the right stuff to be a Nobel laureate!

So congratulations to President Barack Obama for doing something that other famous nominees like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Benito Mussolini couldn't do. Barack Hussein Obama like Yasser Arafat has a Nobel Prize. Mmm Mmm Mmm.

CLS at Classically Liberal has a must-read post on the ill-conceived laws supposedly protecting our children from predators that are instead ruining their lives by labeling them as sex offenders, for the rest of their lives.

I want to grab our “society” by the shoulders, shake it violently, and scream at the top of my voice: “Don’t you fucking understand what you are doing? How can you let this happen?

Read the whole thing! CLS does a great job of expressing the outrage we should all feel about this type of child abuse.

I work with the mentally ill and have become the legal guardian of an elderly man who's a registered sex offender. His sex crime? Public urination. He was at a bus stop about 15 years ago and had to "go pee-pee." He's diagnosed schizo-effective with a debilitating case of OCD and was afraid he'd miss the bus if he looked for a public bathroom, so he found a wall behind a bush near the bus stop.

I do think the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) is a good thing. When a violent sexual predator has been released and is living in our neighborhood, I believe we have a right to know. However, the vague laws and harsh mandatory sentences that label curious kids together with rapist and child molesting pedophiles are absolutely asinine. The current system must be reformed in order to protect our children.

Pedophiles are a different story. They should never be released because they can't be cured and will always be a threat. When they are released they need to be placed in isolated communities where they'll have no access to children. In Texas, 3 private organizations are working together on building a facility for this purpose. The facility/housing would be located in an isolated area and become home to a fish hatchery. The parolees would work at the hatchery and be bused into town for parole visits. Hopefully within a few years the farm would become self-sufficient.

As for anyone who might object, I think the expression is go fuck yourself, unless they find that offensive in which case they can turn off the TV for once and go for a walk for a change.

5) I'd really rather you didn't challenge the bigoted, misogynistic, hateful ideas of others on an empty stomach. Eat, then go after the bitches.

6) I'd really rather you didn't build multi million-dollar churches/temples/mosques/shrines to my noodly goodness when the money could be better spent (take your pick):
a) Ending poverty
b) Curing diseases
c) Living in peace, loving with passion, and lowering the cost of cable I might be a complex-carbohydrate omniscient being, but I enjoy the simple things in life. I ought to know. I AM the creator.

7) I'd really rather you didn't go around telling people I talk to you. You're not that interesting. Get over yourself. And I told you to love your fellow man, can't you take a hint?

8) I'd really rather you didn't do unto others as you would have them do unto you if you are into, um, stuff that uses a lot of leather/lubricants/Las Vegas. If the other person is into it, however (pursuant to #4), then have at it, take pictures, and for the love of Mike, wear a CONDOM! Honestly, it's a piece of rubber. If I didn't want it to feel good when you did it I would have added spikes, or something.
